O, thou Mother, fount of love,
touch my spirit from above,
make my heart with thine accord.
Figure is joined by Dame Emma Kirkby for a new, intimate production of Pergolesi’s iconic 1736 masterpiece, staged by celebrated singer and director Sophie Daneman, and performed by women of multiple generations. Following their acclaimed production of Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu Nostri (THIS IS MY BODY, ★★★★ The Times), Figure will perform without barriers between audience and musicians in the atmospheric Stone Nest.
The Stabat Mater is a call to share in the pain of a grieving mother, hoping to be redeemed through the act of compassion. With new music by Alex Mills (“Music of supernatural poignancy, melodic but otherworldly, narratively urgent but poetically impressionistic" –The Guardian) weaving around Pergolesi’s original setting of the text, join us for a moving reflection on life and death, and a rallying cry to find a common humanity in our suffering.
Figure is very grateful to the Continuo Foundation for their generous support of this production.
